Attention New Yorkers and Pet Lovers: Exciting New Updates for Adoptapalooza in Washington Square Park on Saturday, June 4

New York, NY – Wednesday, May 18, 2011 – Adoptapalooza is just around the corner! The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals® is gearing up to bring New York City pet lovers an exciting day of activities in Washington Square Park on June 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and invites everyone to come out and celebrate the joys of sharing life with a pet.

Looking to adopt? More than 100 cats and dogs will be waiting to meet you. Already have a dog? Take a spin together through the dog agility course with gold medal trainer and behaviorist Kris Seiter from spot, the doggy day care facility. Need advice about training or grooming? spot's experts will be on hand to talk to you.

And there's more: a pet photographer will be available to create a portrait of you and your four-legged friend. Stella & Chewy's and Evermore will offer pet food giveaways, and TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, will provide bandanas for pets and their human companions and pet adoption kits for all new adopters, plus they will have a pet caricaturist on hand from noon to 2:00 p.m. to draw animals and their owners. A face painter will entertain the kids, and a DJ and a raffle will round out the fun.

Those who come to adopt will have a rare opportunity to meet a wide variety of dogs and cats from numerous rescue groups and shelters — all participating organizations of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Among the groups that will be represented at Adoptapalooza are Animal Haven, the ASPCA, Bideawee, Dog Habitat Rescue, Four Paws Sake, NYC, the Picasso Veterinary Fund, Posh Pets Rescue, Sean Casey Animal Rescue, and more. North Shore Animal League America will provide mobile adoption units to showcase many of the animals.

StubbyDog, an organization dedicated to changing public perception of Pit Bull breeds and helping people rediscover these wonderful dogs as lifelong friends, also will be represented at Adoptapalooza.

World-renowned pet fashion stylist, TV personality, and author Dara Foster will emcee the event. Ms. Foster appears regularly on national television, serving as the pet style contributor to NBC's TODAY show, and contributes to a number of additional television outlets, including TV Land, E!, and ABC News.

About the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals®

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie's Fund®, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015. www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org
