Doggie Moms — A New Reality Series Featuring Women Whose Lives Revolve Around Their Pets — Premieres on NYC life (Channel 25)

Doggie Moms Unleashes Wednesday, February 16, at 9:30 p.m.

New York, NY – Thursday, January 20, 2011 – NYC Media, the official network of the City of New York, is pleased to announce the premiere of Doggie Moms, a new reality series that follows a group of New York City women whose lives revolve around their dogs. The show unleashes on Wednesday, February 16, at 9:30 p.m. on NYC life (channel 25), the flagship station of NYC Media, and will be available to watch online at nyc.gov/vod following the premiere. The series also serves as a resource for important information about City services available to pet owners.

"Doggie Moms showcases just a few of the 500,000 New Yorkers who love their dogs," said Diane Petzke, NYC Media's general manager. "Not only are viewers treated to a front row seat to the local doggie drama, but they'll also come away with new ideas and tips on how to keep their pets healthy and happy in the Big Apple."

Created by Next Millennium Productions, the six-part series features five "moms" as they compete for fame and fortune and jockey for social stature in the doggie world. The moms have a lot of heart too, working tirelessly to give back to the community, raising money for local animal shelters and other charities. Some have even prepared their pets to be therapy dogs who comfort the sick and elderly.

Featured in the series are: Karen and her Chihuahua Eli; Grace and her Yorkies Portia and Rosie; Leslie and her Yorkie SalliSue; Ashley and her Pomeranians Zoe and Misty; and Erika and her dogs Cubby, a West Highland Terrier, and Ginger, a Silky Terrier. For additional details about the moms and their dogs, visit facebook.com/nycmedia.

"We are animal lovers and dog owners ourselves, so this has really been a fun show to produce," said executive producer Elsa Lai and series creator Brook Jones. "It's such a great subculture to tap into; as soon as we met the ladies and their dogs, we knew we found our Doggie Moms. The moms are truly passionate about their dogs and the doggie world, and they have a good sense of humor about it all, which we have been able to work into the show."

In the first episode, some of the moms enter their dogs to be the pick of the litter at the Puppy Prom. Upcoming episodes catch up with the moms at birthday parties, beauty pageants, benefits, and polo matches. In addition to following the exploits of the Doggie Moms, the series will feature details about licensing guidelines, dog parks, microchipping, and spaying and neutering. Episodes will also examine the importance of grooming and nutrition, adopting shelter pets, pet first aid, how to volunteer to help animals, and more.

NYC Media will produce additional doggie-themed segments for broadcast, highlighting City services and local pet events. Doggie Moms, like dozens of other shows and short-form programming airing on NYC life, was obtained by NYC Media at no cost to taxpayers in its continuing cost-saving strategy to air original and encore programs from independent producers and media partners. NYC Media's programs have progressed to win various Emmy awards and garner syndication deals.

For I Love NYC Pets Month in February, NYC Media is partnering with the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, a coalition of pet rescue groups and shelters across the City that provides pets for adoptions. Together, they've created a guide for new pet owners that includes tips about puppy-proofing, grooming, and basic obedience. Also during this City-wide celebration of pets, NYC Media and Doggie Moms will participate in various events to help raise awareness about local animals waiting to be adopted.

NYC life is available in the New York tri-state area on broadcast, cable, and satellite channels. Visit nyc.gov/media for local cable and satellite listings. Doggie Moms will also be available to watch online on the NYC Media Video on Demand Player — nyc.gov/vod. New episodes will be added each week.
