Trails to Tails is the brainchild of Rational Animal, and this 5th edition is whimsically illustrated by 3-D pop-up artist, Charles Fazzino, based on his New York Is collectible illustration of New York City. Trails to Tails will be available in key locations, including city offices, New York Public Libraries, NYC municipal shelters, and select vet offices, animal awareness and adoption events, and pet supplies stores city-wide. Trails to Tails is sponsored by the ASPCA and The PEDIGREE Foundation with help from New York Tails magazine. Rational Animal is a non-profit organization creating media and special events to increase public awareness about NYC's at-risk animals and is among the 160 Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) working with the city of New York to help make NYC a no-kill community. With over 43,000 homeless animals entering into the shelter system on a yearly basis, this map helps promote pet adoption at local animal shelters, locates dog parks, and offers information about free/low-cost pet care services and their locations. In addition, the map offers pet resources for licensing, microchipping, poisoning hotline, pet-friendly housing, and how to report animal abuse, making this latest version of Trails to Tails a must-have for current and future pet guardians in New York City. "There are so many highly visible stores across the city still selling dogs from puppy mills —each purchase means one less adoption — and so many cats and other animals need homes too," said Susan Brandt, founder of Rational Animal. "With this map we aim to direct more people to their local shelters to adopt, donate or volunteer — every person can do their part to help homeless animals and end euthanasia in city shelters." Trails to Tails Pre-Unveiling Party hosted by DoggyStyle, nyc, in SoHo will take place on the evening of February 25 from 6:30–9:30 p.m. at 73 Thompson Street, and is open to the public. At this event, pet-lovers can pick up a Trails to Tails map and buy dog supplies with a percentage to be donated to Rational Animal. Note: Due to weather, the launch event has been rescheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, and the the pre-unveiling party has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 5.
