Out of the Cage! (Holiday 2010)

Is That Picasso?…No, It's Rocky!

Thousands of dogs arrive at Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) shelters every year. And each one is important. So why have we singled out Rocky to feature in our holiday e-newsletter? Because he reminds us so much of Picasso, the extraordinary Pit Bull with a twisted muzzle in whose honor the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals was founded nearly nine years ago by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, creators of Broadway Barks.

Like Picasso, Rocky has a naturally twisted muzzle. This handsome two-year-old, 65-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix was found as a stray by NYPD officers in Far Rockaway shortly after Thanksgiving, and so they took him to the Animal Care & Control shelter in Brooklyn. Within a few days, Linda Vetrano of Posh Pets Rescue, an Alliance Participating Organization, took a keen interest in Rocky and had him transferred to one of her foster families.

Fortunately, Rocky's health is fine — he didn't need to rely upon the Picasso Veterinary Fund for medical treatment. As soon as he's neutered, he'll be ready to be adopted into a permanent home. And what a keeper he is! Big and cuddly, gentle and affectionate, Rocky loves to run and play with other dogs of all sizes. He's housetrained and extremely well-mannered. And with that cute lopsided mouth, he always elicits ohhs and ahhs from admirers. Linda says he's just a wonderful dog!

How would you like to bring Rocky home with you for the holidays…and forever? You can read more about him and fill out an adoption application on the Posh Pets Rescue website, or e-mail Linda at MsLondonspets@aol.com.
