How New Yorkers Can Help Animal Care & Control of NYC

by Julie Bank, Executive Director, Animal Care & Control of New York City

As the only full service animal control facility in New York City, Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) accepts any animal that comes through our door. Regardless of injury, breed, temperament, or available space, we do not turn any animal away. We provide a temporary safe haven for all animals, protecting them from abuse and homelessness. We proactively work with our partners and the community to find new, loving homes for them. If there is an animal who is suffering, and an end-of-life decision must be made, it is done with care and dignity.

It's no secret that AC&C can use more funds to support and provide care for over 43,000 animals a year. Our facilities are older, and we need more resources to go the extra mile. With the holiday season approaching (I can't believe they are almost here!), I am asking you to consider AC&C as part of your holiday giving.

In addition to financial contributions, donations of wish list items, in-kind services, or even your old vehicle can make a big difference in the lives of the animals at AC&C. (Photo by Animal Care & Control of NYC)

"Why would I give to an animal control agency?" you might be asking. Because the animals in our care need you. At any given time, there are more than 600 animals in our shelter system — many with injuries, illnesses, fears. These animals need medications, blankets, toys, and a human touch to feel safe. It doesn't make a difference who you think should be footing the bill. What's important is that we do the best we can for the individual animals who are in our buildings today. Your contribution will go a long way to making their lives better.

You can help by assisting in the care and placement of animals, educating the public, or providing support for administrative programs as an AC&C volunteer. (Photo by Animal Care & Control of NYC)

I am hoping that you are now asking yourself how you can give. You can make a monetary donation by mailing a check to Animal Care & Control of NYC, 11 Park Place, New York, NY 10007. Or donate online, using a credit card, at www.nycacc.org.

You might also consider donating an item from our wish list, providing a much-needed, in-kind service, hosting a fundraiser for AC&C, donating your old vehicle, including us in your workplace charitable giving campaigns, or whatever else you can think of that can bring in funds to our organization. If you cannot give a monetary gift, consider giving the gift of time by joining our volunteer corps. If you have a fundraising idea you'd like to discuss, please contact us.

When I was a child, my parents always reminded me that the holiday season is about being kind to each other and giving to those in need. We hope you will consider AC&C this holiday season.
