Maria's Pet Project on 'LX New York'Out of the Cage! (April 2010)

APOs Gain Weekly TV Exposure on NBC's LX New York

If you've been tuning into LX New York, NBC's daily entertainment and lifestyle show, you've probably seen them — some of the most compelling faces ever to grace a TV screen. Beginning last month, dogs for adoption from Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) have been featured on "Maria's Pet Project," a weekly adoption segment hosted by Maria Sansone that airs live every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST on Channel 4.

Each week, Maria features dogs for adoption from an APO or other rescue organization on the segment. She provides viewers with information about each dog and who to contact if you want to adopt. Maria encourages viewers to adopt an animal in need of a home instead of purchasing one from a pet store. And each week she lets her audience know which dogs from previous weeks have been adopted.

'"Maria's Pet Project' is an innovative and new direction for the show and we've been receiving so much positive feedback already — this topic really seems to resonate with our audience," said Amy Rosenblum, Senior Executive Producer of LX New York. "We look forward to continuing this partnership with the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals and are delighted to utilize our popular show to support this worthy cause and help raise awareness in the tri-state and surrounding area."

Among the APOs that have been spotlighted on the show so far are Animal Care & Control of NYC, ASPCA, Animal Haven, Bideawee, The Humane Society of New York, Mighty Mutts, and Posh Pets Rescue. Dogs from the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance and Animal Farm Foundation have also been featured on the show.

"These segments are so valuable in raising awareness about shelter adoption, and Maria's charisma and love for the animals are surely helping New Yorkers realize how precious these shelter animals really are," says Jane Hoffman, President of the Mayor's Alliance. "This week's segment focusing on animals in foster care, and the need for more foster families, is just one example of the kind of important message that Maria is so effective in conveying to her viewers."

"Maria's Pet Project" has received such strong viewer response that LX New York has expanded the segment and features other dog-related issues, such as microchipping and pet insurance, throughout the week. LX New York and the Mayor's Alliance are working together to develop upcoming segments, so you can expect to see plenty more wonderful dogs awaiting adoption from other APOs throughout the coming months.

We've received numerous contacts from the show's viewers asking when cats will have their day. We understand LX New York isn't quite yet ready to include cats on the show, but we're assuring them that when they are ready, we can definitely locate the feline talent for the show. If you think kitties deserve their time in the spotlight, you can contact the producers of LX New York at contact@LXNewYork.com. Tell them that you love "Maria's Pet Project," and ask them to please keep the segments coming, thank Maria and LX TV for offering this important feature, and tell them that you would also love to see cats for adoption on the show.

Be sure to tune in to Channel 4 every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST for "Maria's Pet Project" and some of the most enjoyable television viewing you'll ever see!
