Increasing pet adoptions is one way the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is achieving its mission of making NYC a no-kill city.

Out of the Cage!
March 2010
This month we're pleased to share with you the progress we made in 2009 toward our goal of ending the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at NYC shelters. While we still have a long way to go, we are on track (actually, we're ahead of our targets) for achieving a no-kill New York City by 2015. In this issue of Out of the Cage! you'll read about how we're moving steadily toward our goal.
You'll also read about ways you can help Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) weather recent budget cuts imposed on it by the NYC Department of Health, the city agency that contracts with AC&C to provide animal control and care services for our community. Cuts in certain animal care services will impose an even larger burden on the heroic work being done by AC&C and Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) that daily take cats and dogs out of AC&C shelters through a program that last year saved more than 17,000 lives.
We hope you enjoy reading about our Wheels of Hope transport drivers, and how they bring more to their jobs than you might expect. Last but not least, learn how you can participate in an important effort to put food in the dishes for pets of struggling New York City pet owners.
We welcome your comments. So please feel free to write us at enews@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
Best wishes,
