Fashion, Comedy Raise Dollars for NYC's Animals

For the second year in a row, the Mayor's Alliance was named beneficiary of two exciting New York City fundraising events: the launch party in August for Pet Fashion Week New York and the Canine Comedy Halloween Pet Costume Contest in October, hosted by Wendy Diamond and Animal Fair magazine.

Pet Fashion Week New York is a unique tradeshow venue for national and international pet lifestyle exhibitors and buyers. At this year's stylish kick-off Fashion Party sponsored by Legally Blond, the Musical, at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in Manhattan on August 17, members of the fashion industry and press enjoyed cocktails and dancing, hobnobbed with model-escorted dogs for adoption from Animal Haven Shelter, and voted for their favorites to be named Mr. and Mrs. Pet Fashion Week. Some party-goers also enjoyed fun Legally Blond makeovers or visited the raffle table, where all ticket purchases benefited the Mayor's Alliance.

On October 29, party-giver extraordinaire Wendy Diamond hosted a night of Canine Comedy at Arena on West 41st Street to benefit the Mayor's Alliance. Dozens of dogs in costume and their people took to the runway, vying for top honors in the Pet Halloween Costume Contest. Actor/comedian/animal advocate Richard Belzer was among the panel of celebrity judges who selected the evening's most illegal, most offensive, most raging, and most fabulous costumes.

Canine Comedy guests Andrea Smith and her companion Frank won the Best in Show award as Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma at this year's Canine Comedy Halloween Pet Costume Contest.

The Mayor's Alliance extends its deep appreciation to the organizers of both of these successful fundraising events. The funds raised were allocated to the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance, which pays for extraordinary medical care for sick and injured dogs and cats from Animal Care & Control shelters.
