Spring Adoption Festivals Build Momentum for Pet Adoptions

The Mayor's Alliance kicked off its 2007 season of pet adoption festivals and low-cost microchipping clinics on April 29 at Juniper Park in Queens. The following weekend, New York State Senator Jeffrey Klein joined the Mayor's Alliance and Maddie's Fund to host the adoption festival and microchipping clinic in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx. Animal Care and Control (AC&C) and the ASPCA were on hand with cats and dogs for adoption. Senator Klein's enthusiasm and support got people out to the event to adopt and also got pet owner/guardians out to microchip their cats and dogs. The Mayor's Alliance is extremely grateful to Senator Klein and his staff for all their help in making the event a success.

On May 20, Brooklyn's Prospect Park was the venue for a well-attended adoption festival and microchipping clinic, where quite a few dogs and cats found their new forever homes. One big success was Mako, a 13-year-old male cat who was transferred from AC&C to Linda's Feral Cat Assistance and promptly adopted by a gentleman with an affinity for senior cats. A special feature at the event was a card-signing, where adopters and other event-goers, volunteers, and Maddie, the Maddie's Fund mascot, signed a thank-you card for retiring TV game show host Bob Barker of The Price is Right, thanking Bob for all he has done over the years for animals. For decades, Bob closed each show with a reminder to viewers to spay and neuter their pets.

Event-goers and volunteers, including one enthusiastic canine, and the Maddie's Fund mascot, signed a card for animal activist and long-time TV game show host Bob Barker, who is retiring.
