Adoption Event Season Winds Down with a Successful Finish
Cats, dogs, Maddie, and plenty of adopters came together in October to create a fantastic finish to the year's schedule of NYC adoption festivals. Two big events — Adopt-A-Cat at Madison Square Garden and the Mayor's Alliance/Maddie's Pet Adoption Festival in Union Square Park — were extremely well-attended, and lots of lucky cats and dogs found new homes, where they'll be spending their first holidays with their new families.
Adopt-A-Cat, an annual favorite for NYC cat-lovers, drew hundreds of potential adopters to Madison Square Garden on the weekend of October 14 and 15. The event, held in conjunction with the Cat Fancier's Association (CFA)/IAMS Cat Championship, has for the past several years been hugely successful in matching cats and kittens with loving adopters. And this year's Adopt-A-Cat was no exception. Approximately 200 cats and kittens found new homes that weekend, and awareness among the city's cat-loving public of the number of wonderful cats in need of new homes was raised by the event's publicity.
Coco and Blackie, a beautiful feline pair, were among the many cats who found new homes at Adopt-A-Cat this year. This brother/sister team was relinquished by a NYC cab driver who went to great lengths to make sure they would be well cared for; an adopter fell in love with them at Adopt-A-Cat.
On October 22nd, Union Square Park was the scene of the final scheduled Mayor's Alliance/Maddie's Pet Adoption Festival for 2006. Nearly a dozen Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) brought animals to meet their new families, and business was brisk at the low-cost microchipping clinic.
Maddie's Fund mascot Maddie enthusiastically greeted event-goers, and steered many of them toward the ASPCA's dynamic new adoption van with its exceptional animal motif, which made its debut at the event.
Plans are already in the making for next year's adoption festivals, so if you missed out this year, you'll have plenty of opportunities in 2007 to meet you new best friend at an event in one of NYC's parks or other easily accessible venue. Don't want to wait until next spring to adopt? Not a problem!
