Central Park was the place to be on October 4 when pet parents and their pets and other pet lovers joined in the fun at the first-ever Petco™ National Adoption Reunion event.
Co-hosted by Sony Electronics, the event celebrated the three million-plus pets Petco has helped place in forever homes, and shone a spotlight on animals still in need of homes. The event kicked off the nationwide National Adoption Reunion celebrations that took place the weekend of October 8–9, 2011, at all Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores.
One highlight of the event came when the Petco Foundation’s Susan Rosenberg, National Grants and Disaster Relief Manager, presented Jane Hoffman, President of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®, with the keys to a brand new mobile adoption van, which the Petco Foundation donated to the Mayor’s Alliance. The Mayor’s Alliance will use the van to showcase cats and dogs for adoption from the Picasso Veterinary Fund® of the Mayor’s Alliance as well as animals from Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs).
“Over the years, Petco has been tremendously supportive of Mayor’s Alliance programs by providing grants for our free spay/neuter clinics and donating a Wheels of Hope van to our transport fleet,” says Hoffman. “With the extremely generous donation of this new adoption van, we are deeply grateful, and have already begun using the van to find good homes for some Little New Yorkers!”
Several APOs participated in the event with dogs for adoption, including Sean Casey Animal Rescue, Bideawee, Long Island Bulldog Rescue, and North Shore Animal League America.
As co-host of the event, Sony showcased several new digital imaging products, including Cyber-shot® and Bloggie® digital cameras. Event attendees learned how to easily capture and share great pictures and videos of their pets.
Although the Guinness World Record for the most adopted animals in one place remains a future goal, it appeared that everyone who turned out for the event had a great time. They gave a hearty Big Apple welcome to platinum-selling RCA recording artist, Gavin DeGraw, who performed a live acoustic set of material from his brand new album, Sweeter, for the hundreds of fans and pet parents who were gathered.
The Mayor’s Alliance extends a huge thank you to the Petco Foundation for its generosity and recognition of our life-saving progress in New York City. The new mobile adoption van will go a long way in driving our success toward a no-kill New York City!
