Cats, dogs, and other pets are sometimes left behind when owners suffer medical problems, are incarcerated, are evicted, or just move away. These animals rely on the help of neighbors to get out safely.
If you know of an animal who has been left in a house, apartment, or other building where the owner is not expected to return, please call Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) at (212) 788-4000 and press option 8 to report the situation. Between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. you may leave a message.
Also call or stop by your local NYPD Precinct and alert them to the situation.
