When Animal Haven, a non-profit shelter and founding member of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, lost its lease at 251 Centre Street in Soho this past October before its new location’s anticipated opening in February 2016 at 200 Centre Street, the Alliance arranged for Animal Haven to use its adoption van four days a week.
“Having the Alliance adoption van available to us has been absolutely critical in being able to continue our work of placing and taking in animals,” says Animal Haven Associate Director, Kendra Mara. “The van is parked outside of our new location and allows us to show animals to potential adopters, solicit donations, and take in new animal surrenders to prepare them for adoption.”
The animals, however, are more than being seen. They are finding their forever homes. For example, just recently, a passerby saw kitten siblings Java and Beanz (Beanz is pictured above), fell in love, and adopted them! “Java and Beanz are now happy and healthy in their new home,” says Kendra. She adds, “It would have been much more difficult to showcase them and set up meetings with potential adopters without the Alliance adoption van.”
Our Life-Saving Initiatives Need Your Support This Holiday Season!
The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals’ programs strengthen the operations of our community rescue partners to help them save the lives of more homeless pets and feral and stray community cats. Our shared mission is to transform New York City into a more humane community, where no dog or cat of reasonable health or temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.
Our vision is now a reality for tens of thousands of NYC’s animals each year. With your help, we can save even more precious lives in 2016!
Please consider making a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation to support the critical programs and services that have helped save more than 275,000 animals since 2003.
