“My cat pees too much. I don’t want him anymore.”

Words to that effect landed Hank in the Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) shelter on Staten Island. But thanks to the Picasso Veterinary Fund® of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®, Hank no longer pees too much, and he’s awaiting a new loving home.

Increased urination in cats is oftentimes a sign of diabetes. And so it was with Hank. But fortunately for Hank, his condition was reversible. We transferred him from the shelter to Murray Hill Pet Hospital, one of our Picasso partner hospitals, where tests revealed that Hank’s condition probably could be reversed. He was immediately placed on medication and fed an appropriate prescription diet, and indeed, his condition improved. He was then weaned off the special diet, and now is enjoying a high-quality Weruva diet.

For Hank, a thoughtful diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan were all it took to bring him back to good health. Unfortunately, his former owners weren’t interested in seeking a solution; they simply left him at the shelter.

Well, their loss will be some wonderful family’s gain, because Hank is one of the sweetest, most good-natured cats you’ll ever meet! This playful four-year-old boy enjoys the company of other cats, but can also entertain himself (and his family) just fine. He loves to sit and watch out the window, or settle in on a couch and watch television. And he absolutely adores his cat dancer — he’ll play with it for hours on end if you let him. He is a pure joy and a love bug!

Hank is ready and waiting to move on with his life as part of a loving family. He has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, microchipped, and will be delivered to his new home with 30 days of free pet insurance. Save a Life. Donate Now. Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's ANimalsHank owes his bright future to the Picasso Veterinary Fund. If not for the Fund, which paid for his medical treatment and recovery, he might not have survived. Although his condition was reversible, it required financial resources that otherwise wouldn’t have been available to him.

The Picasso Veterinary Fund exists to provide sick and injured cats and dogs who wind up at AC&C with a ticket out — and on their way to a permanent home. Your tax-deductible donation will help us save more beautiful lives like Hank’s, and ensure that they reach the bright future they deserve.

Please give generously to the Picasso Veterinary Fund. You can make a one-time donation, or sign up to make ongoing monthly donations — a commitment that will help save even more animals over time.

Thankfully, Hank is now in the clear. Please help us help more animals follow in his footsteps.

Note: Diabetes is a treatable condition. For some cats, like Hank, the condition can be reversed with appropriate treatment and diet. For others, the condition can be easily managed, following the advice and supervision of a veterinarian.
