New Holiday Pet Adoption Event Coming in December!

Yes, cats will once again have their day — actually, two days — when the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals and Best Friends Animal Society present the ultimate Holiday Pet Adoption Event on Saturday and Sunday, December 18 and 19, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. And not only cats will be available; a few dogs and rabbits awaiting new homes will join them for this two-day holiday adoption extravaganza.

We know that many people were disappointed when our annual Adopt-A-Cat event, traditionally held in October in partnership with the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA), didn't take place. But don't fret. We'll have more cats and kittens than ever just waiting for their new adopters at the Metropolitan Pavilion in December. The convenient location, at 125 West 18th Street in Chelsea, is ideal for adopters who will be out-and-about doing holiday errands the weekend before Christmas, and is easily accessible on public transportation.

Come meet the animals — make it a family outing! — and be prepared to fall in love with one…or two. If you've been considering adopting a new companion, the holidays might be just the right time to welcome a new addition to your household — especially if you'll be spending more time at home, when the kids are off from school. (If you anticipate your holidays being too hectic at home to welcome a new family member, we suggest you wait until after the holidays to sign those adoption papers.)

More than two-dozen rescue organizations will present animals for adoption at the event. You'll also have the opportunity to enjoy giveaways for pet owners, ideas for holiday gifts for your pets, information and advice from pet experts, and quite possibly, cat agility demonstrations provided by CFA.

The Mayor's Alliance will have one of its Wheels of Hope transport vans out front to show New Yorkers and visitors how NYC's homeless animals ride in style when they are transported from Animal Care & Control shelters to partner rescue organizations for adoption.

Also be prepared to take a photo of the kids with a special guest, "Santa Maddie," the six-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot for Maddie's Fund, and enjoy the sounds of the season from roving carolers.

So mark your holiday calendar now, tell all your friends, and check back at www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org for updates about this exciting Holiday Pet Adoption Event!
