Mayor's Alliance Launches 4th Annual "I Love NYC Pets" Month with New Sponsor, TD Bank

This month, the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals once again shines a spotlight on New York City's homeless pets with its annual February pet adoption campaign, "I Love NYC Pets" Month. We're excited to welcome TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank, as this year's official campaign sponsor.

To inaugurate the campaign and this important partnership, TD Bank hosted a festive kick-off event on February 3 at its flagship location in midtown Manhattan. Gregory Braca, TD Bank's NY Metro President, and Jane Hoffman, Mayor's Alliance President, addressed a crowd of well-wishers, while a troupe of irresistible dogs for adoption from Animal Care & Control of NYC charmed guests and photographers.

Throughout February, eight TD Bank branches representing all five NYC boroughs will host pet adoption events. Each event features an Alliance Participating Organization (APO) promoting its animals for adoption on a North Shore Animal League America van. TD Bank also invites pet owners to open an account with TD Bank and receive a $25 bonus with the account.

"We're delighted that TD Bank has joined us in our efforts to promote pet adoption, and we're confident that this partnership will result in an increased number of successful pet adoptions through visible community events," says Jane Hoffman, president of the Mayor's Alliance. Acknowledging TD Bank as New York City's most pet-friendly bank, Jane admits that her dog always demands a pit stop for a biscuit at the TD Bank in her neighborhood. She says he's quite adept at helping her use the coin machine!

If you or someone you know is thinking about adopting a pet, consider doing it now. (After all, what better time to fall in love and make a lifetime commitment than the month of Valentines?)

Throughout the month we're making it as convenient as possible for New Yorkers to adopt:

Many of our participating shelters and rescue groups are holding special adoption events to make sure you find your true love this month.

It's easy to find an event or a shelter near you. Visit the "I Love NYC Pets" Month website: www.ILoveNYCPets.org. This comprehensive site provides information about adoption events by date and location, regular adoption hours at shelters and rescue groups' adoption locations, information about spay/neuter, and more.

Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) offers extended adoption hours — until 7:30 p.m. every day in February — at its three adoption centers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Plus, AC&C has waived adoption fees for cats older than one year.

Not quite ready to make that lifetime commitment? You still can demonstrate your love for NYC pets. Contact an animal shelter or rescue group in your area and find out how you can volunteer, foster a pet, or donate funds or supplies to support their valuable work.

Perhaps you haven't thought about it, but many New Yorkers are struggling financially to provide for their pets during these tough economic times. You can help by donating to the Animal Relief Fund (see related article) at www.arf-ny.org. Your donation will help to stock human food pantries with pet food, providing much-needed assistance to pet owners otherwise faced with surrendering their pets to a shelter. Remember, "I Love NYC Pets" Month is about all NYC pets!
